King mattress under $1,000: Nectar, Bear, and the width you can feel
King is 76 × 80. Under $1,000 we sell Bear $799, Tuft & Needle $825, Cocoon $849, and Nectar $899 — not a mystery foam with a hotel photo.

You can buy a King under $1,000 in this warehouse. Not a rumor, not a “from” price that belongs to a Twin. On September 2, 2026 the Kings we actually ticket below a thousand dollars are Bear Original at $799, Tuft & Needle Original at $825, Cocoon Chill by Sealy at $849, and Nectar Classic at $899. Those four are the list. If a banner promised you a luxury coil King at $499, it was not this dock.
A King is 76 by 80 inches. A Queen is 60 by 80. Same length, sixteen extra inches of width — eight inches a side if you split them, which couples never quite do. The reason to spend into King is not prestige. It is two bodies that already lost the Queen argument, or a solo sleeper who starfish and will not apologize. This page is transactional on purpose: pick a named King, confirm it fits the stair, put it on slats that will not void the warranty, and check out. Sleep does not improve because the cart said “King” while the carton said something else.
King 76×80 versus Queen 60×80
Stand two Queens side by side in your head and you still will not have a King. You would have 120 inches of width and a gap. A King is one slab, 76 inches wide, 80 long, the same length as Queen and Twin XL. Bed size standards are boring until you buy sheets for the wrong one. Cal King is 72 by 84: longer, narrower. If you are tall and the room is a bowling alley, Cal King is the conversation. If you are two people who fight for the edge, King width is the conversation.
Sixteen inches is a nightstand’s worth of mattress. It is also why a boxed King is a different carry than a boxed Queen. Priya will ask whether two people can take the carton up the stair. A King foam box is long and unfriendly at the landing. If the turn cannot eat it, look at Split King: two Twin XL mattresses that make 76 by 80 with a zipper-free middle. Bear Twin XL is $499, so two of them are $998 — still under $1,000, and they go up stairs like two smaller problems. We would rather you order two Twin XLs than return one King that never cleared the banister.
Measure the room. Leave walk space. A King against three walls is a raft. Our size guide and King filter exist so you do not discover the dresser collision after expansion night.
The four Kings we sell under $1,000
Prices below are King, USD, on the card. Trials are 100 to 365 nights depending on the brand. All four ship compressed. None of them are Saatva Classic (Queen $1839, King much higher) and none of them are Purple Restore Hybrid (Queen $1799). Those are excellent beds. They are not this budget.
| Mattress | King price | Feel (short) | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bear Original | $799 | 10" medium-firm foam, Celliant cover | 120 nights |
| Tuft & Needle Original | $825 | 10" adaptive foam, quicker than memory foam | 100 nights |
| Cocoon Chill by Sealy | $849 | 10" foam, phase-change Chill cover | 100 nights |
| Nectar Classic | $899 | 12" gel memory foam, slow hug | 365 nights |
Bear King is the cheapest King we will sell you. It is firmer and thinner than Nectar. Athletes, stomach sleepers, and back sleepers who hated quicksand foam land here. If you and a partner both sleep on your sides and want sink, skip Bear as the shared bed and look at Nectar. T&N King is the middle of the foam-response range: not sticky, not a coil. Cocoon King is the cooling-cover play at $849 — honest about being a budget temperature tool, not a latex hybrid. Nectar King at $899 is the one with a year to decide, which matters when two people have to agree.
GhostBed Classic King is $945 in our catalog — still under $1,000 if you are counting, gel foam over aerated latex, 101-night trial, 20-year warranty. The user-facing “four names” story on this page is Nectar, Bear, T&N, and Cocoon because those are the Kings people compare first. If you want the latex-kissed foam, open GhostBed Classic and read the Queen $745 / King $945 pair with your own back.
Who should not force a sub-$1,000 King
Heavier couples who sit on the edge to dress often want coils. Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid is $999 in Queen and more in King — it is not a King-under-a-thousand story. Casper The One King is $1319. Leesa Original King is $1199. Those are good mattresses. They are over the line this keyword promised. Do not let a sale badge drag them under $1,000 on a screenshot from another year.
Hot sleepers who already failed three foams will not be saved by Cocoon’s cover alone. That sleeper needs airflow through a grid or latex — Purple Restore Hybrid Queen is $1799, which is a different budget. We would rather you stay Queen on Purple than buy a hot King foam and resent August.
If one of you needs a hug and one of you needs a board, a single King slab is a compromise machine. Split King with two Twin XLs lets you mix Bear and Nectar, or two firmnesses of the same brand when we stock them. Same overall footprint as King. Two law tags. Two trials. A small gap you dress with a king sheet and a little denial, or a split-king kit. Ask Sam on contact before you invent a hybrid frankenbed.
Stairs, two people, one carton
Jordan packs Kings that still look like mattresses in the photo, then they go in a box. You will not carry a King foam carton like a grocery run. Two adults, knees bent, no hero moves on the landing. If you live in a walk-up with a tight U, tell delivery before we scan the label. White-glove uncompressed Kings — Saatva territory — are a crew and an appointment. This price band is boxed. Expansion takes 24–72 hours. Do not host your in-laws on night zero.
Outgassing is a new-foam smell, not a poison plot. Open a window. It fades. Nectar and T&N are typical. If smell is a hard no, you are shopping uncompressed innerspring money, not King-under-$1,000 money.
Slats: more than 3 inches apart voids foam and hybrid warranties. A King needs a center beam. The Haven White Oak Platform in King is $549, 2.5-inch slats, 1,200-pound rating with the center rail. Putting a $799 mattress on a folding guest frame is how warranties die. Photograph the gaps.
How two people actually use the extra width
Queen gives each person 30 inches in a polite fiction. King gives 38. That is Twin-width apiece, which is why people say a King is two Twins pushed together — geometrically close, structurally not, unless you ordered Split King. Dogs, kids, and a book pile will colonize the middle. Plan for it.
Motion: all-foam Kings isolate better than coils. Nectar is the quietest of this four. Bear and T&N are quieter than a cheap innerspring from a big-box clearance aisle. If one of you leaves for water twice a night, memory foam is the kinder King. If both of you hate feeling stuck, T&N or Bear. Combination sleepers who cannot agree take the quiz and believe the short list.
Heat: two bodies on 76 inches still make a climate. Cocoon’s phase-change cover helps the first minutes. It will not replace a fan in a sealed room. Cotton sheets, a protector that is not vinyl-crinkle, and slats that let the underside breathe matter as much as the cover story. Bedding has a King waterproof protector at $89. Trials void on stains. Use one.
Money on the card, not a from-price
Haven list prices sit about twenty percent above the selling price, rounded up to the nearest $50. Bear King $799 lists near $1,000. That is a crossed number, not a 70-percent holiday miracle. The Labor Day warehouse sale is the front door for crossed lists across the catalog. Clearance is named leftover SKUs. Financing is demo APR in writing if you use it — we will not invent a monthly payment here.
Shop King mattresses, or under $1,000 and then check that the variant is actually King. The page should show King price on a phone when King is selected. Compare three SKUs with trials and which sizes exist. How to order: match, size, cart, dock date.
GhostBed King $945, Bear $799, T&N $825, Cocoon $849, Nectar $899. Five named beds if you include GhostBed, four if you stick to the set everyone asks for first. No invented $399 King. No Queen photo wearing a King caption. If the stair wins, two Bear Twin XLs at $499 each still total $998 and still sleep 76 inches wide. That is a King solution that fits a walk-up. Priya would rather book that than argue with plaster.
Reviews from people who slept on King, FAQ for the phone, returns if the trial fails after you gave the foam a month without a disguise topper. Sleep trial policy is 100–365 nights in this store. Use them as a test of feel, not as a free rental while you hunt a cheaper screenshot.
When you are ready, pick one King SKU, pick a base that keeps the warranty, and check out. The warehouse already priced it.
